what is leadership coaching?
what is leadership coaching?
let’s first talk about what it isn’t:
It isn’t therapy. The professional and personal challenges that you are facing in your life will certainly come up in a coaching relationship, but my goal isn’t to heal or alleviate symptoms of any condition. our coaching relationship will never delve into clinical work or suggest mental or behavioral health diagnoses. Coaching is focused on your future and what steps we can take to get there.
It isn't consulting, nor is it advice. I don’t have the answers to your questions. But I do have a lot of questions for you that might help you discover the answers to your own questions. Occasionally, I might suggest some tools for you to try, but I’m not going to give you instructions on what to do next with your life. the answer will come from you… trust me!
It isn’t mentoring. in a coaching relationship, You’ll rarely hear about my life or my experiences. Instead, I’ll remain curious about you, your wisdom, and your big dreams.
So, what IS leadership coaching? It’s a relationship where, I, the coach become your personal accountability partner. I like to encourage my clients to use my presence as “an instrument” — you bounce your fears, big dreams, and everything in between off me, and we work together to help you work through and towards. This authentic relationship is goal-driven and deeply grounded in trust and co-creation.
Here’s the thing—at the end of the day you need to make your own decisions about your life, passions, and career. And YOU are the expert of your own life! Like I said before, I don’t have the answers… you are the keeper of the knowledge. I’m just here to help you get to know yourself better so you can tune into and activate that knowledge.
Why leadership coaching? Leadership shows up everywhere. Leadership is not just about what you do—it’s also about who you are. And who you are at your core is what will show up when it comes to motivating and mobilizes yourself and others. Leadership is not so much about what role you’re in, what authority you have (or don’t have), or what you do at work.
i predominately work with social impact professionals (aka, people who are doing great things for society). and while I don’t have a preference for your job title in the industry, i do prefer to work with people who are passionate, open-minded, and who are giving 110% to positively impacting their corner of the world.
What do I expect of clients?
I expect clients to have a goal or opportunity that they’re ready to tackle. I expect clients to be open to exploring roadblocks and blind spots. Most importantly, I expect clients to be ready to change. If you’re not ready to change then you don’t need a coach… yet :) If you are ready to change, then I’m here to be used as a catalyst in that process.
What can you expect of me?
You can expect me to keep it real. You can expect me to ask questions and stay curious while challenging you to explore new ways of being and acting. You can expect me to celebrate you and all of your wins and accomplishments. You can also expect me to be honest and direct. You can expect me to have unconditional positive regard for you and your decisions.
What’s the end goal?
The aim of leadership coaching is that you learn to trust your own judgment so that you can show up big for yourself and your community. honestly? the goal is that you will no longer need me as a coach… although you can expect me to be one of your forever cheerleaders.
